Nursing Home Abuse

Don't wait if you or a loved one is suffering

The care required in the nursing home environment is very specialized and unique.  Patients/residents in nursing homes are often unable to complain when they are hurting, hungry, thirsty, wet, or in need of more advanced medical treatment.  As a result, they usually totally rely on nursing home staff and visits from family and friends to monitor their well-being.  When the staff fails in its responsibility to properly care for the patient/resident, it can have immediate, devastating, and fatal consequences.  The Illinois Nursing Home Care Act and medical malpractice laws provide a legal remedy against nursing homes and their employees in these terrible situations.  Our team at THE HOPSON FIRM will prosecute all those responsible for any injuries your loved ones sustain as a result of poor nursing care.

How can I tell if a loved one is suffering from nursing home abuse?

While we understand that no family member can be at a nursing home around the clock, there are certain signs to look out for. If something is not in order, seek a meeting with a person in charge of the nursing facility and call an attorney:

  • Bad smells around your loved one
  • Check feet, buttocks, and shoulders for sores and discoloration
  • Check for weight loss
  • Check for clean bedding
  • Check for a deteriorated emotional state (fear, anxiety)
  • Check for changes in medication

These actions will not take the place of proper nursing home care.  But they will alert staff that their work will not go unchecked.  The Hopson Firm is prepared to fight for your family.
